I lead the Advanced Data Analysis unit at the Gulbenkian Institute for Molecular Medicine, where my team brings statistical rigor and machine learning to biology: experimental design, Bayesian inference, multi-omics data integration, and the honest analysis of single-cell and spatial transcriptomics data.
I am increasingly interested in how AI changes the practice of science itself: agentic systems for data analysis, foundation models for biology, and what it takes to make AI-generated analysis trustworthy rather than merely fast. I write about this on the blog, and build tools under Projects.
